Description
The Greatest RArity in the BWA Series
George V tin-brass 2 Shillings 1928 MS62 NGC, Royal mint, FT21, KM13b. Ex. R.J. Ford Collection (lot 15). From the collector: "The rarest currency coin in the BWA series. One of only two known in private hands. This example ex R.J. Ford collection." And that, succinctly put, is what makes this such a special piece. Of the highest rarity, with our research suggesting that the collector (who, after all, is the expert on the subject) is correct that there are only two in private hands and another two in museums. The other available piece has actually been on the market recently, and provides a good graph of the popularity of this extreme rarity. It was first offered in September, 2008 as part of the Diana Collection, Part Two (Baldwin's 58, lot 1462), where it hammered at 6,000 GBP ($11,130 at the time). That same coin was then offered again in September, 2013 as part of the Arielle Collection of British Colonial Coins (Baldwin's 85, lot 3202), where it hammered for 10,000 GBP ($16,069). That coin crossed the block once more in May, 2014 (Baldwin's 87, lot 1697) where it hammered at 11,000 GBP ($18,692). As one can easily see, there has been a clear positive slope in the price for that coin. The coin on offer now, though, should easily surpass that mark; the Diana-Arielle specimen was graded as "About Uncirculated" whereas the Vice example is a clear Mint State, despite an unfortunate mark in the left obverse field. Compounding its condition is its distinguished pedigree, going back to both the Ford and now Vice Collections. A truly special opportunity!Metal: Tin-Brass
Diameter: 28mm
