Description

1851-C Gold Dollar, AU55
Popular Charlotte Type Coin

1851-C G$1 AU55 PCGS. Winter-3. High date, heavy die crack from rim to second S in STATES. Shimmering green-gold surfaces are softly accented with hues of plum and orange on this Choice AU gold piece. Typical of this Charlotte issue, the obverse has slight softness on Liberty's forehead curls, with the reverse showing weakness in TES OF and on the central devices. Only a couple of abrasions are noticeable on Liberty's cheek and neck, and the reverse shows a mark on the denomination 1 as well as at 5:00 near the edge. This Branch Mint issue has less than 100 Mint State examples at PCGS, keeping AU-level coins popular with branch mint type collectors and gold specialists (6/25).(Registry values: N1793)
