Description

1863-S Quarter Eagle, AU50
One of the Rarest Quarter Eagle Issues

1863-S $2 1/2 AU50 PCGS. Orange-gold surfaces display partial glowing luster. Although design detail is a bit mushy, blending is minimal. Bowers estimates that 55 to 80 examples of the 1863-S quarter eagle survive, with perhaps two or three in Mint State. This makes this issue one of the toughest of the entire Liberty Head series, due to heavy circulation on the frontier.
