MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike
Sole Finest DMPL Coin at CAC

1899-S $1 MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. CAC. The 1899-S is a better date in high grade, although Gem examples can usually be located with a little patience. Nonetheless, it is rare that a Prooflike Gem comes up at auction, and Deep Mirror Prooflike Gems are almost never seen. PCGS reports only 47 grading events for Deep Mirror Prooflike 1899-S dollars, of which just six have qualified for a Gem or finer numeric grade. Moreover, the coin offered here is the sole finest Deep Mirror Prooflike 1899-S endorsed by CAC (1/19). The depth of reflectivity is impressive, and neither side exhibits obtrusive abrasions. Barely a trace of light golden color warms the mirrors. This piece has a touch of strike weakness above Liberty's ear, but the satiny devices are otherwise well-defined. A highly appealing Registry Set candidate. Population: 2 in 65 Deep Mirror Prooflike, 4 finer. CAC: 1 in 65, 0 finer (1/19).
