Description

1937-D Three-Legged Buffalo, Attractive MS63
Far Finer Than Usual

1937-D 5C Three-Legged, FS-901, MS63 PCGS. This Select Mint State Three-Legged nickel is especially well-struck and exhibits lovely, satinlike mint luster. Each side is covered with pale lilac toning and a touch of olive over the high points. Along with the 1918/7-D and the 1916/1916, the 1937-D is the third most popular variety in the Buffalo nickel series. As one might imagine from the late date of issue, it is by far the most available of the three varieties and is occasionally offered at public auction in the better grades of Mint State.
Ex: Ron W. Keeney Collection, Part Two / Denver Signature (Heritage, 8/2006), lot 718.
