Description

1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar, AU55
O-115a, Original Surfaces

1806 50C Pointed 6, Stem, O-115a, T-17, R.2, AU55 PCGS. CAC. Tompkins Die Stage 4/3. Diagnostics include doubling on TY in LIBERTY and the positioning of the leaf tip relative to the I in AMERICA. The late die stage shows cracks through the date to star 3, and a crack along the top of STATES. While this is an available Overton variety, few examples can match the eye appeal of this Choice AU Draped Bust half dollar, with violet-gray, blue, russet, and olive tones over each side. The high points show moderate friction, but the devices are largely well-defined. Only the eagle's neck and upper wing feathers display softness. A wonderfully original example that should command a premium.
