Description

1857-D Gold Dollar, AU55
Underrated, Low-Mintage Issue

1857-D G$1 AU55 NGC. Variety 9-L. From a mintage of 3,533 pieces, the 1857-D gold dollar is a scarce issue in all grades, but its elusive nature is often overlooked, outside of series specialists. This lightly worn Choice AU specimen exhibits the usual softness on the top of Liberty's bonnet and the ribbon bow, with some dramatic clash marks on both sides. The lightly abraded orange-gold surfaces retain traces of original mint luster. Census: 25 in 55, 50 finer (9/18).(Registry values: N2998)
