Description

1914 Half Dollar, PR67
Flawless, Colorfully Toned Surfaces

1914 50C PR67 NGC. CAC. The obverse of this incredible Superb Gem proof is awash in iridescent rose, magenta, and purple toning with glints of sea-green, ice-blue, and gold. The reverse displays similar blue and green hues over the motifs, while purple and rose complement the deeply reflective fields. No mentionable marks appear, even after close study. The 1914 lays claim to the smallest proof mintage among all Barber half dollars with a meager production of just 380 specimens. Remarkably, that total is 70 pieces lower than the second-lowest mintage accomplished one year later, in 1915. The issue ranks third-rarest in the series in PR65 or better condition. Census: 14 in 67 (1 in 67+), 2 finer. CAC: 9 in 67, 0 finer (5/16).
