Bright 1919-S Near-Gem Fifty Cent

1919-S 50C MS64 PCGS. Jeff Ambio writes that the 1919-S is the second rarest Mint State Walking Liberty half dollar after the 1921-S. Even 1919-S examples grading MS60 to MS64 are rare (Collecting and Investing Strategies for Walking Liberty Half Dollars, 2008).
Bright, lustrous surfaces of this near-Gem specimen take on freckles of tan and violet on the obverse, while splashes of the same color palette visit the reverse. The design features exhibit a better-than-average strike on Liberty's head and branch hand. A handful of minute, wispy marks precludes Gem classification. Housed in a green-label holder. Population: 60 in 64, 49 finer (11/08).
