1862-S $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. Fewer than 100 1862-S quarter eagles are believed known, surviving from a small mintage of only 8,000 pieces. This Choice AU representative displays tinges of deep orange-gold throughout otherwise bright yellow-gold surfaces. The eagle's left (facing) leg is slightly weak, but the strike is otherwise well-executed. Light field chatter accompanies the grade. Population: 9 in 55, 14 finer (12/16).(Registry values: P2)
