Description

1928-S Peace Dollar, MS65
Extremely Rare in Finer Grades

1928-S $1 MS65 PCGS. The 19287-S Peace dollar claims a mintage of more than 1.6 million pieces, but the issue was not well-made and most examples exhibit weak strikes and excessive surface marks. Many coins were released into circulation at the time of issue and relatively few were saved by contemporary collectors. As a result, the 1928-S can be located without much trouble in lower grades, but it is the most challenging issue of the series in MS65 condition, and finer coins are virtually unobtainable.

This impressive Gem shows a touch of the usual softness on Liberty's hair and the eagle's wing, but the strike is certainly better-than-average. Dusky shades of golden-brown, amber, and violet toning enhance the well-preserved surfaces and vibrant mint luster shines through the patina. Population: 59 in 65 (1 in 65+), 1 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N4719)
