Description

1926-S Buffalo Nickel, MS64
Above-Average Sharpness

1926-S 5C MS64 PCGS. CAC. The challenge of the 1926-S Buffalo nickel in Mint State spans both technical grade quality of strike. The issue is marginally available in grades through MS64, but anything finer is a major rarity, out of reach for most collectors. Moreover, virtually all known examples display some degree of striking deficiency in the centers, as is seen to a marginal extent on the current piece. This coin shows satiny luster and is devoid of major abrasions. The bison's shoulder and the hair above the Indian's braid are lacking full detail, but are still above average for the issue. The obverse is uniformly golden in tone, while the reverse shows a deeper army-green hue with glimpses of amber and violet. The 1926-S had a low mintage of only 970,000 coins, and is a better date in all grades.(Registry values: N4719)
