Challenging Charlotte Issue

1854-C $2 1/2 AU58+ PCGS. Variety 1. A lemon-gold Borderline Uncirculated Charlotte quarter eagle. The strike shows moderate merging at the centers, but peripheral elements are sharp. A hair-thin horizontal line through the ear is the sole mentionable mark. The obverse exhibits a prominent wire rim between 8 and 4 o'clock. Just 7,295 pieces were issued. Population: 7 in 58 (1 in 58+), 6 finer (5/16).(Registry values: P2)
