Attractively Toned, Low Mintage

1859-D $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Variety 22-N. Just 2,244 pieces were struck for this quarter eagle, the final issue of the denomination from the Dahlonega Mint. Light orange and lime toning visits this example, which has smooth fields and a thin dash of gray patina on the cheek. The eagle's left (facing) leg is soft, but the wings and stars are crisp. Census: 34 in 58, 14 finer (6/16).
