Description

1911-D Two and a Half, MS64
Eye-Appealing and Sharp

1911-D $2 1/2 MS64 NGC. Strong D. The 1911-D is the most in-demand issue in the Indian quarter eagle series. Choice Mint State examples are particularly scarce, and Gems are among the rarest in the series. This Denver key boasts a scant mintage of 55,680 coins, which is by far the lowest in the series. This was the first issue of the series struck at a branch mint, and many pieces were distributed into circulation without collector notice, producing the rather plentiful supply of AU-level coins known today and the scarcity of near-Gems. This piece displays a bold strike and characteristically satiny luster. There are no singular abrasions, only light lines in the fields that limit the grade. Eye appeal surpasses expectations for the issue. NGC has seen fewer than 100 finer examples, including resubmissions (5/16).(Registry values: N7079)
