Description

1806 BD-1 Five Dollar, AU55+
8x5 Stars, Pointed 6

1806 $5 Pointed 6, 8x5 Stars, BD-1, R.4, AU55+ NGC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/e. A green-gold Choice AU example with intermittent rose-red toning across the obverse border. The strike is fairly sharp despite minor blending on Liberty's curls and the left (facing) wing near the shield. Relatively unabraded, with the sole mentionable mark concealed within the neck curls. The 1806 is among the more available Heraldic Eagle dates, but most survivors are BD-6, the Knob 6, 7x6 Stars variety. BD-1 is scarce in problem-free condition. The die variety is distinctive: the first two obverse stars touch, and the Ts in the reverse legend lack a right foot.
