Description

1864 Gold Dollar, MS66
5,900 Pieces Struck

1864 G$1 MS66 PCGS. The population totals at PCGS and NGC suggest probably no more than 150 examples of the elusive 1864 gold dollar survive from a mintage of 5,900 pieces. Mintages for gold and silver coinage plummeted after specie payments were abolished during the Civil War. The reverse exhibits the usual clash marks, and the lower part of 18 is a touch soft, but the rest of this Premium Gem displays needle-sharp detail. Luminous yellow-gold surfaces are aglow in vibrant mint luster. Population: 3 in 66, 11 finer (9/18).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25CY, PCGS# 7563, Greysheet# 8026)

Weight: 1.67 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
