Description

1880-O Morgan Dollar, MS65
Rare, Among the Finest at NGC

1880-O $1 MS65 NGC. The 1880-O is a major condition rarity among Morgan dollars of this decade, being plentiful in MS64, very scarce in MS65, and almost unknown finer. Q. David Bowers writes in A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars, fifth edition, "Luster varies from satiny to 'greasy,' but is generally satisfactory." This Gem example shows luster that is vibrant and softly frosted, being devoid of toning and all but the most trivial surface imperfections. Slight strike weakness above Liberty's ear is normal for the issue but hardly noticeable on this piece. The Gem population at NGC includes only 25 non-Prooflike coins and one Prooflike piece, with none finer (1/18).
