The Finest Certified Cameo Proof 1873 Three Cent Nickel

1873 3CN Closed 3 PR67 Cameo PCGS. Nearly all Proof coins, across every denomination, have Closed 3 date logotypes. Exceptions include the two-cent piece, the half dollar with a single Proof known, and the rare three dollar gold piece. Almost all Proof coinage in 1873 was produced in the first two months, prior to the logotype change. It was because the digit 3 looked too much like an 8 that the change took place. All 1873 Proof three cent pieces have the Closed 3 date style.
This example is the only PR67 Cameo example of this issue certified by either major grading service, and no finer examples have been submitted. It has fully brilliant surfaces with deeply mirrored fields and lustrous devices. There are no blemishes visible on either side. It is truly a Superb Gem Cameo Proof that will be welcomed by the connoisseur. Population: 1 in 67, 0 finer (1/05).
