Attractive 1913-S Double Eagle, MS64

1913-S $20 MS64 PCGS. Few issues illustrate the topsy-turvy nature of Saint-Gaudens double eagles as the 1913-S; while the total mintage amounted to just 34,000 pieces, the overall survival rate is high, though attractive near-Gem and better pieces can be challenging. This yellow-orange piece shows a pair of small copper spots, one on Liberty's upper gown and the other at the base of her torch. Well struck with soft but pleasing luster. PCGS has certified only 20 coins finer (8/07).(Registry values: N4719)
