Description

1926 Sesquicentennial Half Dollar, MS66
None Certified Finer

1926 50C Sesquicentennial MS66 NGC. An uncommonly well-produced example of this conditionally rare half dollar, which is among the most challenging commemoratives to find in Premium Gem condition. The flatness of John R. Sinnock's design at the centers resulted in poor strikes and difficult execution, as did the legends climbing the dished walls of the rims. More than 85% of the 1 million-piece mintage was melted as unsold. This excellent example is both attractive and well-struck for the issue, with light, golden-lilac toning and glimpses of iridescence on the margins. Washington's cheek and hair are brought up, and the Liberty Bell is bold. No numerically finer examples have been seen by either service. Census: 19 in 66 (6 in 66 , 1 in 66+ ), 0 finer (6/14).(Registry values: N4719)
