1895-O Barber Half, MS66
Rarely Seen So Fine

1895-O 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1895-O Barber half dollar is a great rarity in Gem and finer grades. This Premium Gem representative is one of only three so-graded coins at PCGS, where two Superb Gems are finer; NGC shows none in this grade and one finer (11/15). This is only the second '95-O we have ever handled in MS66, and it is the only piece in this grade with CAC approval. The other Premium Gem we offered was the Hugon coin (Heritage, 1/2005), lot 4209, which realized $13,225.

This piece is delightfully well-preserved, showing satiny mint luster shining through champagne-gold and russet-green toning -- the deeper colors clinging to the peripheries and the lighter to the centers. The eagle's right (facing) talons and wing junction show expected weakness, but the obverse portrait is well-defined. Housed in a green label holder.(Registry values: N4719)
