Description

1920-D Half Dollar, MS65
Underappreciated Early Issue

1920-D 50C MS65 PCGS. The 1920-D half is an underappreciated early issue in the Walking Liberty series. The mintage is not especially low (1.5 million struck) but it is scarcer than other early issues, such as the 1919 and 1921. Strike detail can vary widely on the 1920-D, and this is one of the better-struck pieces we have seen recently. The skirt lines are irregular but mostly present and there is a split between the thumb and forefinger, but the head of Liberty and the eagle's feathers display softness. The mint luster is thick and frosted, uninterrupted by any noticeable abrasions. Brilliant throughout. Population: 45 in 65, 6 finer (7/16).
