Description

1868 Ten Dollar, AU58
Only 10,630 Pieces Struck for Circulation

1868 $10 AU58 NGC. The numismatic rewards are many for collectors specializing in the long-running Liberty Head ten dollar series, including an extensive string of low-mintage Philadelphia issues such as the 1868, struck to the extent of only 10,630 pieces plus 25 proofs. Despite the low mintage, this date is more available than most of the 1860s eagles, although seldom seen in Mint State; NGC has certified two in MS60 and one in MS61, and PCGS shows one submission in MS62. This near-Mint State NGC example offers well-struck orange-gold surfaces that show light field chatter but no singular contact, consistent with a short spate in circulation. Census: 31 in 58 (1 in 58+), 2 finer (1/14).
