1942-S Half Dollar, MS67
Second Rarest Late Date

1942-S 50C MS67 PCGS. Among the late-date Walking Liberty half dollars, the 1942-S is the second rarest issue behind the 1941-S, but it is also overshadowed by the 1941-S half. But make no mistake about it, the 1942-S is a rare issue in high grade, and it has a lower population than the 1941-S in Superb Gem MS67. The 1942-S is typically a poorly produced issue with little detail at the center of the obverse, and probably ranks second only to the 1940-S in terms of its low quality strike. However, this 1942-S Walker, a lovely Superb Gem with brilliant silver luster and satin surfaces, also features an above average strike for the issue, and actually shows some separation of the thumb. Population: 2 in 67, 0 finer (3/13).(Registry values: N4719)
