Description

1912-S Lincoln Cent, MS66 Red
Coveted CAC Rarity
Tied for Finest Known

1912-S 1C MS66 Red PCGS. CAC. Ex: Whispering Pines. The 1912-S is among the more elusive early dates in the Lincoln cent series with full Red color, and such coins are especially rare above the Gem grade level. The finest pieces known are graded MS66 Red, without even so much as a Plus-designated piece finer at either service. PCGS reports 13 coins in MS66 Red, NGC just one, for a total of 14 coins. Of these, four are CAC endorsed (11/24). For the most advanced Registry collector, a 1912-S in MS66 Red with a CAC label is an exceptionally challenging acquisition, and an unsurpassable one as well.

The Whispering Pines Registry Set, fittingly, contains one of these elite specimens. The coin displays luminous, satiny mint luster rich in mellow copper-orange color. The patina is blatantly original for the issue, which adds all the more to the coin's rarity and quality. The keen observer will be hard-pressed to locate a flaw usable for provenance tracking, making this coin truly stunning, both from a technical perspective as well as a visual one. Population: 13 in 66 Red, 0 finer. CAC: 4 in 66, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N2998)
