Description
1926 Sesquicentennial Quarter Eagle, MS66
Impressive Visual Appeal
1926 $2 1/2 Sesquicentennial Quarter Eagle MS66 PCGS. Issued
to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the United
States Declaration of Independence, the 1926 two and a half dollar
piece depicts Liberty standing with a scroll of the Declaration of
Independence in her left hand and the Torch of Freedom in her
right. The reverse shows the front view of Independence Hall in
Philadelphia. Although well struck for the issue, the low relief
design seldom produced well-defined devices. The obverse is
presented adequately, but the reverse is soft and shows incomplete
building borders. Often mistaken as fingerprints, the reverse
includes rays of the sun behind the Hall, but poor strikes produced
differing results. Even so, the fields are unabraded and the
olive-gold surfaces are softly frosted with accents of lavender and
orange for very pleasing eye appeal. PCGS has graded only one
numerically finer piece (6/25).(Registry values: N4719)From The Mark George Collection.
