1870 Standard Silver Half in Silver

1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-939, Pollock-1052, R.5, PR64 PCGS. The obverse displays a bust of Liberty facing right and wearing a cap ornamented with two stars. A ribbon crosses Liberty's shoulder with the word LIBERTY inscribed in incuse letters. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the periphery, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed on a scroll below. The reverse depicts the denomination 50 CENTS and the date 1870 within a wreath of corn and cotton. The word STANDARD is at the top. This is the Pollock subvariety with the cap beneath the E in STATES and the word LIBERTY in incuse lettering. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. A lovely Choice proof, this example has light gold toning at the centers within a peripheral frame of vibrant blue and violet toning. Population: 5 in 64, 3 finer (12/25).
