Description
Challenging 1809/8 Half Eagle
BD-1 Variety
1809/8 $5 Genuine PCGS. Breen-6458, BD-1, High R.3. The PCGS
number ending in .98 suggests Damage as the reason, or perhaps one
of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our
opinion, this coin has the details of an Uncirculated specimen that
has surface damage. Upon initial inspection, the present coin
appears to be a remarkable example, since the fields are unabraded
and display attractive green-gold toning. Liberty's cheek, however,
exhibits several tiny, glossy marks. The strike is essentially
full, with minor doubling on the reverse legends. The obverse
dentils exhibit adjustment marks, as made.
Note for clients in the European Union: This lot is considered by the European Union to be “investment gold”. We believe that it meets the criteria established in Article 344(1), point (2) of Council Directive 2006/112/EC and thus should be exempt from import VAT regardless of the selling price. Any questions or concerns about VAT should be addressed to your accountant or local tax authority.
