Description

1851-C Quarter Eagle, XF45
Low Mintage, Low Survival

1851-C $2 1/2 XF45 PCGS. Variety 13-G. The only known die pair. Like many of its brethren, this is a low-mintage issue that is seldom found in higher grades. Both sides have parallel file marks visible only on the devices. It appears that these may have occurred at the Charlotte Mint, after this coin was struck but before it was released for circulation. They have an appearance similar to adjustment marks on earlier Federal coinage. Both sides have rich greenish-gold color with hints of luster. Population: 22 in 45, 30 finer (2/11).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25HM, PCGS# 7760, Greysheet# 8365)

Weight: 4.18 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
