Description

1848 Quarter Eagle, AU58
Scarce Issue, Especially in High Grades

1848 $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. The 1848 is an overlooked date in the long Coronet quarter eagle series. Only 7,400 pieces were struck and the majority are VF or XF. This is one of the finer examples known. The surfaces are uniformly bright and the fields show die striations, which have imparted a semireflective gleam. Rich, even reddish patina is seen over each side of this well-struck, minimally abraded example. Census: 13 in 58, 19 finer (9/11).
