Description

1859 $1 -- Rim Filing -- NGC Details. Proof, AU. With an increasing interest in numismatics among the general public, the Mint struck 800 proof dollars in 1859. However, this number is the subject of debate and it is likely that 450 coins or fewer were actually distributed. The strike is typically sharp with minor softness on the highest points of the design. Medium olive-gray patina covers the reverse and yields to silver-gray centers on the obverse. Evidence of rim filing appears around the edges.
