Description

1908-S Five Dollar Indian, MS64+
Remarkable Velvet-Like Luster

1908-S $5 MS64+ PCGS Secure. CAC. The 1908-S five has a low mintage of only 82,000 pieces and it is a median rarity in series, ranking 11 out of 24 in MS64. But it is not only the low mintage that attracts collectors to this issue as well as its ten dollar and twenty dollar counterparts, that also have low production numbers. Much of the appeal common to all three of these gold coins is the remarkable mint luster and color found on original pieces. This particular coin displays the velvet-like mint frost that is rarely found on any other gold coin. The reddish-gold surfaces show just the slightest hint of lilac interspersed on each side. The strike details are fully brought up and there are no mentionable abrasions. Population: 86 in 64 (10 in 64+), 71 finer. CAC: 18 in 64, 17 finer (11/18).(Registry values: N2998)
