Description

1880 Gold Dollar, MS68+
Exceptionally Lustrous and Colorful

1880 G$1 MS68+ PCGS. CAC. Occasionally gold dollars are found in high grades from the 1880s. The 1880 was an especially favored date because of the mintage of only 1,636 pieces. The number of high-grade examples known points to the existence of a small hoard at one time. This is a fabulous coin. The mint luster is thick and frosted and rolls around each side unimpeded by abrasions. Both sides exhibit rich reddish-gold and lilac color that is evenly interspersed. The striking definition is complete also, but the strong suit of this coin is definitely the luster. Simply outstanding. Population: 1 in 68+, 1 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N4719)
