Very Scarce B-26, BB-114
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Close Date, B-26, BB-114, R.5 --
Artificial Toning -- NCS. AU Details.Sharp AU details remain on both sides of this BB-114 example, struck from Bowers Die State IV based on a die crack through the bottom of the tail. David Bowers suggests "1798 BB-114 exists to the extent of 35 to 60 pieces, if indeed that many, and it is one of the classic rarities of the year. AU and Mint State coins are very rare." The deep gunmetal-blue and brown toning is questionable according to NCS, but the rarity of the variety makes this net-graded example makes it an interesting opportunity for the early dollar enthusiast.
