1838 HM-1 Half Eagle, MS62
Lustrous Yellow-Gold Beauty

1838 $5 HM-1, R.3, MS62 NGC. Beautiful yellow-gold surfaces are covered with deep luster. Slight silver regions exist across the top left wing to the neck. Strike is razor-sharp across both sides. This issue represents the final year of the Classic Head half eagle before the Liberty Head design was brought to the half eagle in 1839. Two die marriages are known, each with a unique obverse and reverse die. The D in 5 D. is positioned further left relative to the stem on HM-1. SB North Carolina is noted on the NGC holder.
