Description

1924 Double Eagle, MS67
Surprising Condition Rarity

1924 $20 MS67 NGC. Although the 1924 is more available than any other Saint-Gaudens twenty, nearly the entire mintage went overseas for use in international banking. Roger Burdette estimates more than 99% of the surviving 1924 double eagles come from repatriated foreign holdings. Superb Gem examples are rare despite hundreds of thousands grading events at PCGS and NGC at lesser grades. This Superb Gem is one of the few pieces of high quality available to collectors. Vibrant, canary-yellow surfaces show only a few minuscule marks, and a sharp strike covers both sides. NGC reports just three numerically finer coins, plus one in 67+ and two in 67 (3/20).(Registry values: N4719)
