Description

1893 Nickel, Remarkable MS67
The Sole Finest at PCGS
A Memorable Registry Coin

1893 5C MS67 PCGS Secure. CAC. Ex: Rafferty. We are privileged to offer for the first time the single finest PCGS-certified 1893 Liberty nickel. NGC lists three others in this grade, but none can debate that the sole PCGS coin is by far the mostly highly sought-after of all four top Condition Census pieces. In its one known previous auction appearance, this remarkable Superb Gem garnered more than $22,000, or about two and a half times what any other 1893 nickel has ever realized at auction. With its CAC green label -- one of only two CAC endorsements awarded to coins in this grade -- this piece is arguably the sole finest 1893 nickel known. The faintest trace of pastel toning graces each side amid frosty, untouched mint luster that appears as though it only recently emerged from the working dies. Although several peripheral stars show incomplete definition, such is of little impact on the general eye appeal of this piece. We look forward with great anticipation to this coin changing hands into another high-ranking Registry Set or private collection.
Ex: Baltimore Auction (Stack's Bowers, 6/2012), lot 2328, which realized $22,325.
