Description

Mid-Condition Census 1855-C Half Eagle, MS62

1855-C $5 MS62 NGC. Winter 23-J. While unlisted on the current Condition Census (as are most of the Ashland City coins), this piece will surely find a place eventually in the middle range of the C.C. for this issue. Like the MS60 above, this piece is sharply defined on the figure of Liberty, but the peripheral stars and the eagle on the reverse lack complete detailing. The surfaces display a rich reddish accent of patina over the basic green-gold color of the coin. The fields show an interesting mixture of semi-prooflikeness and mint frost, and each side has numerous small abrasions. The only mark that is large enough to be useful for pedigree purposes is a short one just below the lower left tip of the bust of Liberty.
