Description

1797 Ten Dollar, XF Details
Large Eagle Reverse, BD-4

1797 $10 Large Eagle XF40 PCGS Genuine -- Filed Rims -- XF Details. BD-4, High R.4. The die crack rising through the last 7 in the date and the Large Eagle reverse with long, thick neck on the eagle are sufficient to make the attribution, since this was the only 1797-dated obverse die used with this reverse. Despite the PCGS caveat, this piece offers much to commend itself. The surfaces show considerable detail remaining, and the rim filing appears limited to a small area beneath the date. The color is an attractive yellow-orange. A few notable marks appear on the reverse, including at the right wing and right shield corner, a rim nick at the C of AMERICA, and a couple of the clouds below TAT.(Registry values: P3)
