Description
1856-S Twenty Dollar, AU58
Khaki-Gold Coloration
1856-S $20 AU58 NGC. CAC. Variety 17A. The striking of
double eagles at the San Francisco Mint continued to climb three
years after the facility's inauguration, reaching nearly 1.2
million coins in 1856. Although the provenance of this near-Mint No
Motto twenty is uncertain, the die matches many coins recovered
from the wreckage of the S.S. Central America (full serifs
on STATES, broken A). Each khaki-gold side is awash in considerable
mint luster, providing excellent aesthetic appeal. Well-detailed
with shallow abrasions peppered evenly throughout.(Registry values: N1793)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2692, PCGS# 8919, Greysheet# 9864)
Weight: 33.44 grams
