1872-CC Seated Dollar, MS62
Reflective Fields, Excellent Surfaces
Carson City Rarity in Mint State

1872-CC $1 MS62 PCGS. Demand for fresh silver dollar coinage in the Nevada Territory in the 1870s never materialized. The high Trade dollar mintages and later Morgan dollar productions were due mostly to federal laws requiring their coinage, not always local demand. The Seated dollar issues from this mint more closely reflect the contemporary situation in that region. Of the four dates struck in this series, only the 1870-CC had a mintage that cracked the five-figure barrier. The 1872-CC is among the low-mintage semikeys of the entire series (although for the collector who cannot obtain such great rarities as the 1851, 1852, and 1870-S, these Carson City issues are full fledge keys).

The present coin is among only a dozen Mint State pieces certified by PCGS, including five in this grade and three finer (1/16). The surfaces display dusky tan-gold toning, but a tilt in-hand reveals nearly prooflike fields. The design elements are well-defined, and a few light marks are the only grade-limiting factors. A rare and important opportunity for the Seated dollar or Carson City enthusiast.(Registry values: N7079)
