Description

Small Planchet Pine Tree Shilling in XF, Noe-29

1652 SHILNG Pine Tree Shilling, Small Planchet XF40 PCGS. Noe-29, R.3. 69.4 grains. A more common variety, and, thus, an excellent choice to represent the Pine Tree coinage of Massachusetts Bay Colony. Both sides are predominantly golden-gray in sheen, but there are blushes of tan iridescence here and there. The otherwise appreciably bold detail wanes a little at the lower borders. In addition, we note that the obverse is better centered than the reverse with the tops of a few peripheral letters at the upper border of the latter side off the flan. Remarkably smooth for a circulated survivor with no abrasions of note. Listed on page 18 of the current Guide Book.
