Description

Well-Contrasted 1877 Gold Dollar
MS68, Tied for Finest Graded

1877 G$1 MS68 NGC. One of the six finest certified of the issue at NGC, along with three others so graded at PCGS, this 1877 one dollar is one of a meager mintage of 3,920 pieces to begin with. The naked eye observes considerable contrast on each side of the canary-yellow surfaces, while a loupe reveals a tiny planchet flaw below the D in UNITED. Some tiny contact marks appear in the obverse fields, and the die appears to be crumbling on the N of UNITED and the C of AMERICA. The reverse shows a few other scattered, trivial contact, and an apparent planchet flake atop the 8.(Registry values: N4719)
