1886 Gold Dollar, PR66 Deep Cameo
From a Mintage of Just 88 Proofs
1886 G$1 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. With a mintage of only
88 coins, the proof 1886 gold dollar is challenging in any grade.
Still, a surprisingly small number of examples have been
encapsulated in the Cameo category, and even fewer have been
awarded a Deep Cameo designation. This Premium Gem is one of just
six Deep Cameos seen by PCGS, which include a single PR65
representative, four pieces in this grade, and one PR67 coin
numerically finer (3/15). Field-motif contrast is crisp, with the
devices showcasing frosty yellow-gold and the fields exhibiting
seemingly infinite depth of mirroring. The strike is bold, and
close study with a glass is needed to discern any grade-limiting
