Description

1902-O Half Dollar, MS66
The Dr. Thaine Price Coin
Tied for Finest at PCGS

1902-O 50C MS66 PCGS. Ex: Shireman/Price. The striking characteristics of this 1902-O are virtually identical to those of the 1901-O described above, with weakness especially noticeable at the eagle's head and right facing wing. This Premium Gem, with its satiny luster and stunning iridescent toning is undoubtedly one of the most appealing examples from the Dr. Price Collection, as it is in the Dr. Shireman Collection. David Akers suggested that this piece is possibly one of the finest examples of the 1902-O half dollar in existence, and he wrote that this coin was one of his four or five favorites in the Price Collection. Population: 3 in 66, 0 finer (11/15).
Ex: Dr. Thaine Price (David Akers, 5/1998), lot 155.
