Description

1855 Flying Eagle Cent Pattern, PR63 Brown
Judd-168 Original

1855 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-168 Original, Pollock-193, R.4, PR63 Brown NGC. A Flying Eagle cent pattern in a large format, featuring a hooked-neck eagle, slanting 5s on the obverse, and ONE CENT in the center of the reverse surrounded by a thick laurel wreath similar its counterpart on the large cent. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. A well-struck Select specimen. The obverse is walnut-brown while the reverse displays streaks of medium brown over olive-green surfaces, apparently the result of improper mixture of the alloy. The fields exhibit clash marks, usual for the Judd variety.
Ex: Chicago Signature (Heritage, 8/2013), lot 4870.
