Description

1799 B-9, BB-166 Draped Bust Dollar, XF40
Nicely Toned, Gold CAC Endorsement

1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-9, BB-166, R.1, XF40 PCGS. Gold CAC. Bowers Die State V. Recognizable by the distinctive "Apostrophe" die crack adjacent to the second S in STATES, the BB-166 is also known for its impressive network of die cracks on the obverse visible on late die stage examples such as the present coin. Concentric rings of peach-gold and azure-blue toning surround pleasing, light-sliver centers on this exquisitely toned early dollar. Sharp definition remains throughout minimally marked surfaces that retain considerable mint luster. This conservatively graded coin is housed in an old green label holder with the CAC gold seal endorsement that suggests the coin is at least one finer grade level in quality than shown on the holder.
Purchased from Ellesmere Numismatics on 1/8/1988.
