Brilliant and Semiprooflike
1843 $1 MS63 PCGS. OC-2. The rarity level for this variety
is yet to be determined. Repunching on the 4 and die lines in the
upper left shield corner confirm the die pair. A frequent target
for type purposes, the 1843 has a high mintage of 165,100 coins and
a survival rate to match. Select representatives are rare and will
present a significant challenge. Most collectors can eliminate the
possibility to obtaining a Choice example of this early date.
Brilliant, semiprooflike surfaces deliver excellent eye appeal. The
centers are well-struck, and strike softness is limited to the
