Select Mint State 1800 Half Dime
V-1, LM-1, Struck Twice in Collar
1800 H10C -- Struck Twice, Rotated in Collar -- MS63 NGC. V-1,
LM-1, R.3. Extremely late state of the V-1 or LM-1 obverse. The
denticles below the second half of the date are broken off, a die
crack rises from the first zero in the date to the bottom of the
bust, and in the space to the right of Liberty's neck, a "collar"
die clash appears. Further complicating the appearance of this
piece's struck features: it received two impressions, resulting in
doubling visible on the finer details such as the stars. As a coin
it is remarkably well-preserved, especially given the passage of
two centuries, and the gold and blue-green toning over each side is
charming.
